Justin De Dios

Who would not be enchanted by the pure beauty of Justin De Dios?
From his cute eyes to his warm smile, just one look, and you would be asking: "Is he real?"

Justin was born Justin De Dios on July 7. 1998 in Malabon, Metro Manila. He was a normal kid raised by loving and hardworking parents, the youngest of three sons, and a Multimedia Arts degree holder with honors. As a kid, he had always been bubbly and talented, dreaming of being an actor.

Justin said that when he was a kid, he would act whenever he didn't get what he wanted, not because he was sad or spoiled. He just wanted to try. Talk about being a born actor. One would think that someone like Justin always had confidence in his talent, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. In reality, he was shy and an introvert. Often, he would focus his attention on his artwork.

As he grew older, his curiosity developed, wondering what it would be like if he became a performer, an artist. In a country like the Philippines, getting even just one foot into the door of the music industry is a constant battle. With Pinoys being born with world-class talents, full of belters and dancers, one must have the X factor to be noticed. While studying, Justin attempted to broaden his horizons and joined dance groups. Do you know that he even auditioned BoyBand PH?

He didn't make it to the live audition, but what if he did? What would Justin be now? There is no doubt that whatever path he may have chosen in life at that moment, he would have succeeded. Yet, as fate would have it, there was a much bigger plan for him. How did I know? For someone like Justin, he could have turned his back on his passion and chose the practical life. In fact, he already had a good life to begin with. All he had to do was make the right, practical choices in life, and he would have been set for a good future.

Instead of becoming a part of a boy band, he was accepted as a trainee for a group of performers who were supposed to only perform in small corporate events. But Tatang Robin, former CEO of SBT, saw how talented and dedicated the trainees were, that they were too talented to be just nameless performers. So instead, he trained his talents more, pushed them to their limits, and honed their craft to form the first-ever acknowledged PPOP group in the country.

Justin sure had insecurities, and probably still does. He used to think, he was only given a few lines for the sake of the group looking good. Such a feeling of disappointment was enough to put someone down, but not Justin. Watching his groupmates strive and work so hard to become better, he knew he had to up his game, and he did. Not just as a performer, but as a vital part of the group. During the pandemic in 2021, the group released a new song, a testament to their pride as Filipinos, and he directed their music video.

The massive success of What? brought Justin's creative talent into the spotlight, and since then, he has been directing or co-directing their music videos. But this young lad is not just a pretty face with creative talent, he has a calm and soothing voice to his arsenal too. In each new song the group released over the years, Justin had proven that he deserved to be a part of SB19.

Who would forget his emotional introductory part on one of the most iconic songs in Philippine Music history, Mapa? With every performance, his voice became better and better, and you could feel every word in the lyrics. His lower notes are superb, and he can shock people when he hits the higher notes, too!

One of his dreams was to release his own song, something he created himself, and for the longest time, fans could only hope that he would. His Fan House, Maisan, probably prayed that one day, he would finally showcase his talent as Justin De Dios. Well, the was finally over because, on February 29, 2024, we were blessed by the very first solo song of our beloved bunso. Justin released Surreal, a song so calm it could literally calm the storm in anyone's heart.

"I just wanna live in my imagination
Where hatred does not exist"

Known for his calm demeanor, it didn't come as a surprise that Justin's first song would basically talk about living in one's dreamland where anything is possible. Somewhere that one can feel peace and enjoy the warmth of the sun or the coldness of the snow without a worry about the darkness that constantly consumes the real world. One of the things his Mais loves about him is his ability to see the good in people and the world. During their Pagtatag! World Tour concerts, Justin gave the most beautiful advice to two kids who attended their concert in Winnipeg.

Justin told them to always look at the good side, something that those kids would probably remember until they grow up. His positive outlook on life is something we could all learn from. It is so easy to drown in the noise and chaos of the world, to gravitate towards negativity, but choosing to see the good in an already beautiful world is definitely worth the try.
