In the old days, there was no identification of men and women, no segregation of what each gender can and cannot do. It was only humans learned the meaning of power and control that male and female segregation began. Power became associated with and defined by the male gender because they were believed to be the stronger species, while women were associated with weakness and frailty. As the world developed, superiority among the human species emerged in the guise of system and order. Male superiority turned many into toxic men who crave power and control over women and everything around them.
As the definition of sexuality becomes more 'studied' and 'explained', those who do not fall under the accepted categories are ostracised, shamed, ridiculed, and vilified by society. Even with the improvements in the world today, the belief that was engraved in many people's minds for hundreds of years still lingers, preventing us from accepting the truth that's been around us for a lot longer than we realized. Many of us would use religion as a shield from the truth that diversity in sexuality existed even before our religions were established.
How many tragic stories of lives lost have we heard because this world is too cruel to let others live their lives the way they want? How many mental health jeopardized and ruined because many of us couldn't allow them to just be? We don't own the world and yet, we set rules that everyone must follow like they are mindless sheep. It is sad to think about the pain and suffering that our fellow human beings had to go through, and probably still going through because we are too focused on what we want and imposing it on others.
SB19 is not immune to such an atrocious treatment. People expect them to be straight men and insult them for showing signs that they are not. They've answered this a few times in the past, and they all claimed to be straight men, but what if they are not? Do they deserve to be insulted? Questioned? Bashed? No, they don't because no one deserves that kind of treatment. Whether they are straight or not, they are all wonderful people with undeniable talent who contribute so much to the music industry. That is all that matters.
A person must be judged by his or her actions, not sexuality. We all have the freedom to do whatever we want to and no one has the right to tell us otherwise. SB19 is a group of talented people. They are sharing their talent with the world, not their sexuality and romantic life. The two are irrelevant and are none of our business. Criticism should be reserved only for their talent and characteristics as people, not whether they are straight or gay.
Sexuality doesn't define a person.
We can't control or change who we are or who we fall in love with, and neither can these five talented people. They may be public figures because of who they are, but they are humans, too. They deserve to have a life free from judgment and expectations. It should not matter if they are gay or not as long as they are not hurting people or doing anything bad. They deserve to be genuinely happy in life, even if it's not something we all agree with.
