The Sunshine Boy

This is such a sweet nickname to give to a person. Acknowledging that they bring joy into our lives, but the question is, are we acknowledging them for who they are or what they do for us? Do we see them as a human or source of what we feel we lack in our lives?

We live in a country where people are strongly set in their old ways, but the funny thing is, we don't really have our old ways anymore. Only a very small percentage of our entire population had managed to keep their true Filipino ways. What we have now is a mixture of Spanish, American, Japanese, and Chinese cultures. So when people nowadays say "gaya-gaya", "wannabes", etc, I literally laugh. Beauty has always been subjective, but before, it was all about natural beauty. As the world progress, so is the definition of it. Society has set a standard of what's acceptable, and people felt like they had no other option but oblige.

When technology and medicine improved, many country quickly embraced the rapid spread of physical enhancements, but not in this country. Even now, we judge and belittle people for trying to improve how they look. It's almost as if it's their money that you spent on yourself. Now, why am I talking about all of these? If we would look back starting six years ago, it was Stell who took the most hit from people who don't have anything better to do with their lives. He had been severely insulted and humiliated, even by people of the media.

Has he matured and grown since then? He sure did. The way he carry himself now is so far from how he was before, but that doesn't mean he suddenly became invincible. His heart has always been in the right place, sometimes too much, that even I fear that he would get manipulated or taken for granted. But in this blog, I want to tackle about how everyone sees him as the sunshine boy. Is he a naturally happy person? Absolutely. Is he always happy? Absolutely not. I will bet my life that he still gets hurt by the things he read online, but he do his best to show up with a smile on his face.

This doesn't mean that he is okay all the time. I feel like the nickname sunshine boy is being used too loosely. It's almost as if a responsibility has now rested upon his shoulder to always bring happiness to everyone. There are moments that I see him trying to push aside something mentally just to be the sunshine boy everyone loves. I hope people, especially those who claim to love him realize this, see it even when he's not saying anything. We don't have any idea how much it took for him to overcome all that had been thrown his way since they debuted.

He maybe a man full of life, light, and talent, but he is still just a man. I hope we see him as that, someone who feels emotions.
